Plan for Your Pet

Legacy Pet Program

Legacy Donors who need assistance with home placement of their beloved pets upon their death or incapacity can opt into our Legacy Pet Program. In order to participate in this program the final gift will have to equate to $30,000 per pet requiring placement; or $25,000 per pet during your lifetime. Pledge agreements are required for lifetime gifts. Foothills Animal Rescue will have full discretion of the use of these funds. This program highly suggests consistent communication about your pets and their needs with the staff at Foothills Animal Rescue.

This program guarantees intake and care of your pet into Foothills Animal Rescue, in the event that you become incapacitated or upon your death. When your pet joins the Legacy Pet Program, s/he will receive a pet tag to be worn on their collars. Foothills Animal Rescue will also issue you a card to place in your wallet, a window sticker and a fridge magnet in the event of a sudden death to indicate to emergency personnel or persons handling your estate to contact Foothills Animal Rescue to transfer ownership of your pet.

Foothills Animal Rescue will create an animal profile in our shelter software system indicating that your pet is a participant of the Legacy Pet Program and will document any special notes and veterinary contact information. Foothills Animal Rescue always attempts to adopt bonded animals together, but is not guaranteed. Foothills Animal Rescue heavily invests in the medical treatments and behavioral enrichment of all the animals in our care. In the event that your pet has a serious medical condition or that your pet is not safe to handle during the time in our care, Foothills Animal Rescue does not guarantee adoption and has the discretion to euthanize, if deemed necessary and is ALWAYS a serious consideration that the organization takes seriously.

*Foothills Animal Rescue accepts outright gifts and cannot act as a trustee of a pet trust.

Process and Documentation

To participate in the Legacy Pet Program requests you meet with the Director of Development and/or the Executive Director to discuss the details of the process and paperwork.

The Legacy Pet Program is a very personalized program and Foothills Animal Rescue will respect your wishes as they are documented. We would like a copy of your estate documents whereby you designate Foothills Animal Rescue as a beneficiary or Foothills Animal Rescue will provide a pledge agreement that outlines the terms and conditions of the Legacy Pet Program.
