Dog Attendant
*Aid shelter staff with socialization and observation of behavior
*Ensure cleanliness of rooms and outside area
*Ability to handle dogs of all sizes, shapes and temperaments in a safe manner
*Take and follow directions from staff at all times
*Assist public with questions regarding animals
Requirements: Dog Wagger Orientation/Attendant Training; May involve repetitious bending and lifting; Must be able to safely walk dog, despite size, age and temperament; Ability to bend down and pick up any dog waste as necessary; Must wear closed toe shoes; Possible exposure to various cleaning agents; High animal contact *This is a VERY physical position.*
SHIFT TIMES – EVERY DAY:
BSMC – 7:30-9:30am, 12:30-2:00pm, 4:00-6:00pm
Spa Day (Both Campuses)
*Bathing and grooming shelter dogs
Requirements: New Volunteer Orientation; Ability to safely handle dogs of various sizes and ages; May involve bending and lifting; team player
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
BSMC – Saturday, 12:00-1:00pm
PIMA – Monday and Wednesday, 3:00-4:00pm
Adoption Events
*Help set-up and tear-down event materials
*Help empty and pack up shelter van, as needed
*Speak clearly and in a positive tone to potential adopters
*Walk dogs as needed for bathroom breaks
*Interact with dogs (cuddles, pets)
Requirements: Dog Wagging Orientation; Politeness, cheerfulness, and people oriented; Positive attitude; High animal contact
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Usually Friday and Saturday
Various days and times as determined by staff
Hiking with a Dog (Seasonal)
*Hike for 1 ½ hours with a shelter dog
*Inform staff about what the dog likes or dislikes from your hike
Requirements: New Volunteer Orientation; Proper clothing for the weather; Appropriate shoes for hiking; Water for your entire party; Physically fit enough to walk safely with a dog for 1 ½ hours
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Saturday: 9:30-11:30am
Various other days and times as determined by staff


Cat Attendant
*Scoop litter and replace, as needed
*Sweep floor
*Wipe down doors/glass of rooms, inside and out, as needed
*Clean up any soiled spots (i.e. vomit) outside of litter box and report to staff
*Add food and water, as needed
*Socialize with animals and observe behavior
*Assist public with questions regarding animals
Requirements: Cat Attendant Training; May involve repetitious bending and lifting; Possible exposure to various cleaning agents; High animal contact
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Monday: 8:00-10:00am, 4:00-6:00pm
Tuesday-Sunday: 8:00-10:00am, 12:00-2:00pm, 4:00-6:00pm
Cattery Caregivers (Petco/PetSmart)
*Clean, sanitize and refresh cat enclosures
*Communicate with fellow volunteers and staff via agroup text message board
*Communicate with store staff
*Speak with the public about our animals and possibly help with adoptions
*Provide feedback to staff about any medical/behavioral issues
*Socialize and play with the available cats
Requirements: Special training by staff or current volunteers; Transportation to and from catteries; Must wear red FAR Volunteer t-shirt; Knowledge of caring for cats
PLEASE NOTE: Foothills will provide all items needed for the cats at offsite catteries (bedding, food, cleaning supplies, etc.)
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Minimum 1 day per week, same day each week, with time to be determined by volunteer
Office Assistant
*Aid shelter staff with organization and all office duties/projects
*Talk to the public in a respectable, knowledgeable and intelligent manner
*Answer phones, take clear messages and return phone calls
*Make animal folders
*File folders, as needed
*Give tours to visitors
*Assist potential adopters
*Data entry
*Ability to work independently and as a team member
Requirements: New Volunteer Orientation; Ability to communicate effectively with staff and customers;Politeness, cheerfulness, and people oriented; Computer savvy (able to use Microsoft Word, Excel and the Internet)
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Tuesday-Sunday: 11:00am-2:00pm, 2:00-5:00pm
Adoption Counselor (NOMINATED ONLY)
*Aid shelter staff with showing animals
*Talk to the public in a respectable, knowledgeable and intelligent manner
*Familiar with most animals in the shelter
*Finalize adoptions with customer
Requirements: Nominated by staff; 20 hours as an office assistant; Special training by a staff member; Organized; Ability to answer questions effectively and work with the public; Politeness, cheerfulness, and people oriented; Can handle pulling dogs, of all shapes, sizes and temperaments, out of rooms safely to meet potential owners; Positive attitude *This can be physical position as you may be handling animals.*
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Thursday-Friday: 11:00am-2:00pm
Saturday-Sunday: 11:00am-2:00pm, 2:00-5:00pm
Sparkle Day
*Focused cleaning throughout shelter
*Help with disease control, isolation prep and maintain our beautiful environment
Requirements: New Volunteer Orientation; Able to take direction from staff
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Thursday: 11:00am-1:00pm
Photographer’s Assistant
*Assist photographer with handling either dogs or cats for photo session (Photos will be placed on our website, Facebook or other media outlets)
Requirements: New Volunteer Orientation; Able to take direction from photographer; team player
SHIFT DAYS AND TIMES:
Thursday: 5:00-6:00pm
Transporter (NOMINATED ONLY)
*Transport animals to different locations per staff needs
*Speak to the public in a respectable, knowledgeable and intelligent manner
Requirements: Nominated by staff; New Volunteer Orientation; Politeness, cheerfulness, and people oriented; Can carry crates up to 25 pounds; Positive attitude; Valid Driver’s License and Insurance
PLEASE NOTE: This can be physical position as you may be handling heavy crates
