FAQ

What is Foothills Animal Rescue (FAR)?

Foothills Animal Rescue (FAR) is a non-profit, volunteer organization established in 1995. Foothills Animal Rescue is committed to compassionate and humane treatment of dogs and cats in need through rescue, shelter, fostering and adoption within Maricopa County.

What does it mean to be a no-kill rescue?

FAR does not euthanize animals due to space or time constraints. In the event an animal is terminally ill, has a poor quality of life, or a severe behavior issue we consult with our Veterinarian to make the best decision for that animal.

Is FAR involved in any community collaborations?

FAR endeavors to partner with any other professional organization that utilizes best practices. We are currently partner with Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project of Maricopa County and PACC911.

The goal of Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project is to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable shelter animals in Maricopa County by 2017. The Project coalition involves a number of animal welfare organizations and is made possible by a grant from Maddie’s Fund, the Pet Rescue Foundation. Learn more here.

PACC911 brings together animal welfare organizations throughout Maricopa County in an interactive manner, providing opportunities to work together for the greater benefit of the animals. PACC911 focuses on assisting the rescue groups in four distinct ways: adoption events, fundraising, education and medical assistance through the PACC911 Emergency Medical Fund.

Does FAR ever need volunteers?

Volunteers are our lifeblood. We have challenging and rewarding opportunities for adults and youth over 16 years of age. Learn more about volunteering.

Are there any breeds that FAR does not work with?

FAR chooses not to work with purebred and mixes of the following: Pitbull, Chow Chow, Akita, and Shar Pei.
