History of FAR

animals are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole” Roger Caras

Foothills Animal Rescue is a cage-free, non-profit (501(c)3) organization that saves lives by rescue, care and adoption of homeless cats and dogs.

Foothills Animal Rescue was founded in 1995 with a group of caring citizens in the Carefree area to help solve the issue of unwanted, abused, lost dogs and cats.  In 2010 FAR was fortunate to have  wonderful supporters who challenged themselves to find a building to shelter our rescued pets along with an outstanding Resale Boutique with 100% of the proceeds going to the care of our cats and dogs.

Since opening in 2010, we have been successful in helping to reduce homeless pets in our community through rescue, loving care and provide a temporary safe “haven” while working towards finding them a forever home.  The majority of our cats and dogs were rescued from at-risk county shelters and may have medical issues ranging from simple colds to critical care.  We are able to shelter 60 animals in our facility relying heavily on our dedicated volunteers to socialize, walk our dogs and help to keep our shelter and adoption center clean and organized.  FAR works closely with the community by providing animal welfare resources, education of responsible pet ownership.

As a non-profit organization, Foothills Animal Rescue relies heavily on donations from the community to support its life-saving work and programs. In order to maximize the percentage of every dollar going directly to the care of our cats and dogs, we have limited amount of  paid staff members. All other work and love comes from over 250 shelter volunteers and about 150 boutique volunteers.
